Softball Recap: Lathrop Takes Down Ranked Hutchison

Lathrop faced Hutchison in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Malemutes blew past the Hawks 14-4. The win continues a trend for the Malemutes in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won four in a row.

Peyton Hamilton was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Isla Holm was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Himes, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Lathrop always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Lathrop's record now sits at 5-9. As for Hutchison, they dropped their record down to 3-8 with the loss, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lathrop will welcome West Valley at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. The Wolf Pack will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Malemutes surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hutchison, they will challenge Delta at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
