Softball Recap: Walden Grove Find Success

Walden Grove posted their closest win since February 26th on Wednesday. They skirted past the Mica Mountain Thunderbolts 3-1. This was a revenge game for the Red Wolves: when they faced off against the Thunderbolts last Monday, they had to take a 5-4 loss.

Maddie Holzer was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.

Holzer wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Oliviah Valdez, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI. Kailey Begay also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Walden Grove is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Mica Mountain, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-10.

Walden Grove didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-0 win against Nogales on the 11th. As for Mica Mountain, they are taking a road trip to square off against Sabino at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Thunderbolts' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Sabercats have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
