League recap: Brighton wins, gets boost in standings

Brighton was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from sixth to fourth in 5A East Metro. Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs defeated Northglenn 31-6.

Prairie View added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Lincoln, 41-14. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

Ryan Belearde was a beast in the backfield as Westminster beat Thornton.

Belearde provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Wolves defeated the Trojans. Belearde's favorite target this week was Belearde, who caught 2 passes for 21 yards.

Marcos Pando was the best wideout in the league this week as the Norsemen fell to Brighton. Pando tallied 5 receptions for 110 yards. Eddie Franco helped Northglenn's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 30 yards.

Pat Sandoval's team's Tanner Pepin and Tristin Wells have formed a dream team this season, leading 5A East Metro in both passing and receiving yards. Pepin has thrown for 1,245 yards this season, while Wells has 33 catches for 437 yards. Belearde from Westminster leads the league in rushing with 1,195 yards.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Thornton takes on Prairie View. Mike Marquez's team is in third place, while Todd Riccio's team is in first place.

Kerry Denison's team took down the Trojans 40-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Belearde ran for 240 yards and caught 2 passes for 21 yards during the win.
