Basketball Recap: Carver Takes Down Burke County in a Playoff Battle

With a playoff win on the line, Carver rose to the challenge on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 75-54 margin over the Burke County Bears. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 21 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Burke County's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was De'Quayvian Lovette, who went 6-for-14 en route to 16 points. Lovette's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Omarion Cobb, who posted eight points along with five assists and four steals.

The win (which was Carver's 18th in a row) raised their record to 26-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 85.3 points over those games. As for Burke County, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-7.

Coming up, Carver will be playing in front of their home fans against Spencer at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Carver has won 12 straight at home dating back to last season, while Spencer won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Burke County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
