It was a good run, but Loyola Blakefield unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 49-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Xavier Bombers. While losing is never fun, the Dons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 42nd in Maryland, while the Bombers are ranked sixth in Ohio).

Despite the loss, Loyola Blakefield still got an impressive performance from Mason Ellison, who posted 20 points. That was a full 54.1% of Loyola Blakefield's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jesse Legree, who had nine points.

St. Xavier's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob Wassler, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. With that strong performance, Wassler is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. Brendan Deeley was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.

Loyola Blakefield's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for St. Xavier, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Loyola Blakefield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 68-54 loss against Jesuit on the 29th. As for St. Xavier, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 56-40 defeat against Rockhurst on the 29th.
