Recap: Academy at the Lakes Wildcats vs. Lakeside Christian Lions
The Academy at the Lakes Wildcats suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They were outmatched by Lakeside Christian on the road and fell 78-29. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Academy at the Lakes has scored all season.
Academy at the Lakes' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Matty Vreeland, who scored ten points along with two steals, and Gavyn Widman who scored four points. That was a full 34.5% of Academy at the Lakes' points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Leading Lakeside Christian to victory were Sherwin Simmons and Nijaun Harris. Simmons dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Harris scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Simmons has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen Jackson, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Academy at the Lakes has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Lakeside Christian, they pushed their record up to 12-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Academy at the Lakes will square off against Out-of-Door Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lakeside Christian, they will head out on the road to challenge Northside Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Northside Christian has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 5.
