Softball Recap: Herriman Continues Road Dominance on Wednesday

Herriman was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Pleasant Grove Vikings 6-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Ashlyn Beratto spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kinlee McDermaid, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylee Hansen, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Herriman lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Herriman pushed their record up to 9-8 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Pleasant Grove, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-5.

Looking ahead, Herriman will take on Weber in a tournament on Saturday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.55 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Pleasant Grove, they will venture away from home to challenge American Fork at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
