The biggest upset of the week belonged to San Marcos, who took down 369th ranked San Marcos, 24-20. Ryan Ortiz in the win.
Orange Glen moved up to 524 from 647 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Valley. The Patriots were able to make the jump by beating the Knights 24-20.
Drew Olson and Cory McKesson gave San Marcos a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Olson threw for 186 yards and one touchdown, while McKesson ran for 91 yards. Kyle Lewis also contributed to the rushing game with 18 yards on the ground.
Robbie Halliburton was the best wideout in the league this week as Mt. Carmel lost to Westview. Halliburton racked up five receptions for 86 yards. Tevin Malone helped Mt. Carmel's passing attack out by catching two balls for 42 yards.
Lucas Johnson provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Sundevils fell to the Wolverines. He completed seven passes for 128 yards and also ran for 72 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Olson and McKesson Jason Texler's team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Olson leads the league in passing with 1126 yards, while McKesson has rushed for 545 yards this season. Mt. Carmel's Malone leads the league in receiving yards with 340 on 11 catches.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Valley Center takes on second place San Marcos. Last week, Valley Center defeated Del Norte, while the Knights lost to Orange Glen.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Jaguars take on San Marcos. Valley Center has allowed 120 points this season, while the Knights have given up 120. Rob Gilster's team allowed 26 points last week as it bested the Nighthawks.
Kris Plash's team and San Marcos played the most hotly contested game in Valley this week, with Kris Plash's team eventually emerging with a 24-20 victory. Ortiz in the win.
