Basketball Recap: Nueces Canyon Piles Up the Points Against Leakey

Nueces Canyon had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They really took it to the Leakey Eagles for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-18 victory. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 contests by 23 points or more this season.

Madison Sifuentes was her usual excellent self, going 9 for 13 on her way to 19 points and eight steals. That's the most steals she has posted since back in December of 2023. Schreiner Meredith was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Nueces Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points per game. As for Leakey, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nueces Canyon will welcome Knippa at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Leakey, they will face off against D'Hanis at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. D'Hanis will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Leakey surely won't give up without a fight.
