Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Gwen Julianel and Madi Lam Lead Santa Margarita to Victory

After losing to Aliso Niguel the last time they met, Santa Margarita decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Eagles walked away with a 14-7 win over the Wolverines on Tuesday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Wolverines are ranked 50th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

A big part of Santa Margarita's victory came down to the chemistry between Madi Lam and her top target Gwen Julianel. Lam rushed for 57 yards and one TD on only six carries while Julianel picked up 115 receiving yards and one score. That's the most rushing yards Lam has posted over her last nine matches.

The win made it two in a row for Santa Margarita and bumps their season record up to 14-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 14 points in those games. As for Aliso Niguel, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.

Santa Margarita didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 34-19 loss against Edison on the 13th. As for Aliso Niguel, they have also already played their next game, a 33-7 win against El Toro on the 10th.
