Baseball Game Preview: Bartlett Golden Bears vs. South Anchorage Wolverines

Bartlett is 0-6 against South Anchorage since May of 2016 but things could change on Saturday. The Golden Bears will venture away from home to challenge the Wolverines at 1:00 p.m. Bartlett has given up an average of 11.8 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Bartlett is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 12th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They came up short against Chugiak, falling 15-0.

Meanwhile, South Anchorage faced West Anchorage in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Wolverines were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over the Eagles. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Carson Lake tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits.

On the hitting side, South Anchorage let Chase Mascelli and Logan Geuss run wild. Mascelli went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI, while Geuss went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four runs gave Mascelli a new career-high. Cole Yarington was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for South Anchorage and bumps their season record up to 17-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Bartlett, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-10.

Bartlett might still be hurting after the 7-1 loss they got from South Anchorage when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Golden Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
