Baseball Recap: Stillwater Wins Going Away Against Irondale

Stillwater barely beat Irondale the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Ponies blew past the Knights 12-1 on Wednesday. Considering the Ponies have won five games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Dylan Bloom looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jack Runk was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Mestad, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Stillwater kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 8.8.

The victory made it two in a row for Stillwater and bumps their season record up to 8-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Irondale, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-8.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Stillwater will face off against rival Mounds View at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Ponies 3.4, the Mustangs 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Irondale is set to take on their familiar foe Park at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
