Basketball Recap: Monterey Trail's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Wednesday

After a string of four wins, Monterey Trail's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 67-51 bruising from the Sheldon Huskies. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Huskies earlier this season, when they won 65-62.

Monterey Trail's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Devaughn Dorrough, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. Dorrough has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Elias Roche was another key player, putting up ten points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Monterey Trail smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

It was another big night for Sebastian James, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds for Sheldon. James is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Zion Johnson, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Monterey Trail's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 18-5. As for Sheldon, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-9.

Monterey Trail wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 68-57 win against Elk Grove on the 31st. Sheldon has also already played their next game, a 94-54 victory against Cosumnes Oaks on the 31st.
