Baseball Recap: Chireno Triumphs

Chireno hadn't done well against Joaquin recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Owls came out on top against the Rams by a score of 8-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Owls.

Garrett Sanford made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Chireno is undefeated when Sanford posts two or more runs, but 3-8-2 otherwise.

In other batting news, Chireno let Andrew Mitchell and Angel Berruquin run wild. Mitchell scored three runs while going 1-for-3, while Berruquin went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave Berruquin a new career-high.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 6-8-2. As for Joaquin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chireno will face off against Gary at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Joaquin, they will challenge Woden at 6:05 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Rams' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
