Basketball Recap: Denver West Comes Up Short

Denver West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a hard 38-19 fall against the DSST: Montview Knights. The Cowboys were down 29-9 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

When it comes to explaining why Denver West lost, don't look at Shukri Hussein. Despite the final result, she posted two points along with ten rebounds and four blocks. Hussein has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last seven times she's played. Celeste Marquez also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Denver West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.

Leading DSST: Montview to victory were Sa'Veyah Rogers and Mykah Rimpson. Rogers had 17 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals, while Rimpson dropped a double-double on 14 boards and ten steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Rogers has scored at least a third of DSST: Montview's points.

Denver West now has a losing record at 6-7. As for DSST: Montview, their record is now 6-4.

Denver West will square off against KIPP Denver Collegiate at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for DSST: Montview, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 62-44 victory against Eagle Ridge Academy on the 23rd.
