Basketball Game Preview: Deuel Cardinals vs. Elkton/Lake Benton Elks

The Deuel Cardinals will square off against the Elkton/Lake Benton Elks at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Deuel will be strutting in after a win while Elkton/Lake Benton will be coming in after a defeat.

Deuel is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They put the hurt on Tiospa Zina with a sharp 59-39 victory on Thursday. The win was some much needed relief for the Cardinals as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Elkton/Lake Benton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-46 heartbreaker at the hands of Edgerton. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Elks came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 100th in South Dakota, while the Flying Dutchmen are ranked 277th in Minnesota).

Elkton/Lake Benton's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Deuel, their victory bumped their record up to 3-8.

Deuel and Elkton/Lake Benton were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, but Deuel came up empty-handed after a 41-40 loss.
