Baseball Game Preview: Crystal River Pirates vs. Springstead Eagles

The Crystal River Pirates are taking a road trip to square off against the Springstead Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Crystal River lost 12-2 to Trinity Catholic on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Springstead was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Crystal River.

Springstead got a good showing from Derek Baldwin, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs Baldwin has allowed since back in March.

At the plate, Springstead saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tanner Henrickson, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Crystal River has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season. As for Springstead, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.

Crystal River was able to grind out a solid win over Springstead in their previous meeting on Tuesday, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
