Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Freedom

Freedom posted their closest victory since February 9th on Monday. They had just enough and edged the Fleming Colonels out 56-53. The win was all the more spectacular given the Eagles' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 215th, while the Colonels are ranked 79th).

Freedom is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Fleming, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Freedom will square off against Tuscarora at 7:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Tuscarora knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Freedom likes a good challenge. As for Fleming, they will head out to take on William Byrd at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
