The Green County Dragons will head out on the road to challenge the Larue County Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Green County comes in on three and Larue County on nine.
While Green County's victory against Marion County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Dragons skirted past the Knights 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Dragons have posted since April 18, 2024.
Green County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drew Squires, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Carter Allen also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Larue County made easy work of Hart County on Tuesday and carried off a 9-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won 14 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Lucas Thompson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other pitching news, Ayden Seidl and Hunter Richardson dominated on the mound. Seidl tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Richardson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Seidl has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Brady Skaggs was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Singleton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.
Larue County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .429 or higher in three consecutive games.
Larue County's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-2-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Green County, their record now sits at 8-6-2.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Green County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. However, it's not like Larue County struggles in that department as they've averaged .368. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Green County suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Larue County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
