Basketball Recap: Jayden Mitton Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Grant Park

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against St. Anne, Donovan was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They strolled past the Grant Park Dragons with points to spare, taking the game 45-31. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 65-37 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Donovan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayden Mitton led the charge by putting up 13 points and seven rebounds. Those seven boards gave Mitton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Preston Harrington-Dewitt, who posted nine points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Ian Hamann and Rigo Venegas certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Hamann scored ten points along with six boards and three blocks, while Venegas had nine points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Tony Valerio, who earned two points and five rebounds.

Donovan's record now sits at 3-1. As for Grant Park, they dropped their record down to 0-5 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Donovan didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 53-37 defeat against Lowpoint-Washburn on the 6th. As for Grant Park, they will face off against Clifton Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
