Basketball Preview: Caruthersville Tigers vs. New Madrid County Central Eagles

The Caruthersville Tigers will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the New Madrid County Central Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 90-63, which was the final score in Caruthersville's tilt against the Tigers on Friday. While losing is never fun, Caruthersville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Tigers are ranked 45th).

Meanwhile, New Madrid County Central came tearing into Saturday's game with 14 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 85-80 win over St. Mary's.

New Madrid County Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jadis Jones, who dropped a double-double on 39 points and 14 rebounds. Jones hasn't dropped below 15 points for ten straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of BJ Williamson, who scored 30 points along with five steals.

Caruthersville has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for New Madrid County Central, their win bumped their record up to 20-1.

Things could have been worse for Caruthersville, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 63-44 loss to the Eagles in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Caruthersville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
