Softball Game Preview: Stevenson Patriots vs. Libertyville Wildcats

The Stevenson Patriots are taking a road trip to challenge the Libertyville Wildcats at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Stevenson's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last seven games.

On Monday, Stevenson made easy work of Lake Zurich and carried off an 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won eight matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Ava Potempa spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Jasmine Lucero was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Addison Pak, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Libertyville entered their contest against Warren Township on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Wildcats fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 2-1.

Libertyville also let their pitcher toss all eight innings and she was also dialed-in: Taylor Higham gave up just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, Libertyville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Callie Hill, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Stevenson has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Libertyville, the defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 12-5.

Stevenson skirted past Libertyville 5-3 in their previous meeting on April 8th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
