Basketball Game Preview: Columbus North Bull Dogs vs. Southport Cardinals

The Columbus North Bull Dogs will face off against the Southport Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Southport took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Columbus North, who comes in off a win.

Southport will be up against a hot Columbus North team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Columbus North escaped with a win on Saturday against Perry Meridian by the margin of a single free throw, 54-53. Given the Bull Dogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Falcons are ranked 239th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Southport didn't have quite enough to beat Terre Haute North Vigo on Saturday and fell 58-56.

Columbus North will need focus on slowing down Malik Sims, one of several Southport players who made an impact when they last played. He posted eight points. Another player making a difference was Chanan Glenn, who had 11 points.

Even though they lost, Southport was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Columbus North has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Southport, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-6.
