Baseball Game Preview: Shafter Generals vs. Chavez Titans

Shafter hasn't had much luck against Chavez recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Shafter Generals will face off against the Chavez Titans at 4:00 p.m. Shafter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.

Shafter easily dispatched Del Oro on March 3rd, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Shafter fell just short of Chavez by a score of 6-4 on Tuesday.

For Chavez's part, Diego Villarreal looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Villarreal a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Benji Perez, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Daniel Carrillo was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base.

Chavez is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. Shafter's loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Shafter has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Chavez struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
