Preview: Eaton Reds vs. Weld Central Rebels
Eaton is 5-0 against Weld Central since February of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Eaton Reds are on the road again and plays the Weld Central Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on February 8th. Weld Central took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Eaton, who comes in off a win.
Eaton put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They blew past Valley 60-39.
It was another big night for Tayla Wiedeman, who scored 16 points. Kara Sidwell was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, Weld Central's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Berthoud at home and fell 63-27. Weld Central found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post seven fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the loss, Weld Central had strong showings from Riley Phelps, who scored seven points along with 17 rebounds and three steals, and Jazlyn Ontiveros, who scored no points.
Eaton has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Weld Central, they dropped their record down to 5-13 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Eaton have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Weld Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Eaton against Weld Central in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 73-24 win. With Eaton ahead 37-6 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
