Basketball Game Preview: Little Wound Mustangs vs. Wakpala Sioux

The Little Wound Mustangs will challenge the Wakpala Sioux at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Little Wound will be strutting in after a win while Wakpala will be coming in after a defeat.

While Little Wound didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Todd County by a score of 55-48 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 70-43, which was the final score in Wakpala's tilt against Lemmon on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Sioux can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Cowboys are ranked 16th).

Wakpala's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Little Wound, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.

Little Wound strolled past Wakpala in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a score of 76-62. Does Little Wound have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wakpala turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
