Softball Game Preview: Magnolia Sentinels vs. Rancho Alamitos Vaqueros

Magnolia hasn't had much luck against Rancho Alamitos recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Magnolia will head out to face off against Rancho Alamitos at 3:00 p.m. Magnolia has given up an average of 16.5 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Magnolia lost 12-4 to Estancia on Tuesday. The Sentinels have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Sofia Miranda was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. She also got a hit, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Amalia Ortiz, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Rancho Alamitos was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Tustin.

Fernanda Cervantes was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off one hit. Cervantes was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with one triple and one RBI.

In other batting news, Dahlia Arguelles made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.

Magnolia's record now sits at 1-5. As for Rancho Alamitos, their record now sits at an identical 1-5.

Rancho Alamitos' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Magnolia has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .475. It's a different story for Rancho Alamitos, though, as they've only averaged .300. Will they be able to contain Magnolia's hitters?

Magnolia might still be hurting after the 25-14 defeat they got from Rancho Alamitos in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Can Magnolia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
