Recap: Leake Central Gators vs. Leake County Gators
While the Leake Central Gators couldn't quite beat the Leake County Gators on Friday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 21-point defeat they were dealt last Thursday. Leake Central fell just short of Leake County by a score of 53-50. Leake Central was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Leake County apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Despite the loss, Leake Central saw an underclassman step up: Ty'lan Fortune scored nine points.
It was another big night for Treylon Ricks, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds for Leake County. Ricks has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tay Fortune, who scored ten points.
Leake Central has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. As for Leake County, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-13.
Leake Central will be playing at home against Newton County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Newton County is coming into the matchup with four straight losses on the road, meaning Leake Central will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win. As for Leake County, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Mount Olive at 8:30 p.m. on February 8th.
