Softball Recap: Waite Comes Up Short

Waite couldn't beat Ottawa Hills on Tuesday even though they stacked seven runs on them in the seventh inning. The Indians fell 15-11 to the Green Bears. The Indians were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Green Bears earlier this season, when they won 30-21.

Alexis Avila was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and ten unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Aaniyah Aldana made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Riley Kuharchek, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Waite's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Ottawa Hills, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Waite will square off against Rogers at 5:00 p.m. on May 1. As for Ottawa Hills, they will head out to square off against Notre Dame Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.08 runs per game on average), something the Green Bears will no doubt try to take advantage of.
