Basketball Recap: Socorro Comes Up Short

Socorro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 56-17 loss at the hands of the St. Michael's Horsemen. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 62-13 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2022.

Hailey Valdivia was nothing short of spectacular for St. Michael's: she went 8 of 16 en route to 18 points and eight steals. Those eight steals gave Valdivia a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elsie Odai, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Socorro's loss dropped their record down to 0-12. As for St. Michael's, their victory bumped their record up to 6-10.

Socorro will take on Ruidoso at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Michael's, they will host Santa Fe at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Santa Fe will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something St. Michael's surely won't give up without a fight.
