Softball Game Preview: Middletown South Eagles vs. Middletown North Lions

An exciting North v. South battle is about to be fought. The Middletown South Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Middletown North Lions at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Middletown South 3.6, Middletown North 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Middletown North will be up against a hot Middletown South squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over Freehold Boro on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Middletown North fell victim to Colts Neck and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Middletown South pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Middletown North, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

Middletown South couldn't quite finish off Middletown North in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
