Recap: Kit Carson Wildcats vs. Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates
The Kit Carson Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight defeat. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 41-40 to Genoa-Hugo/Karval. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Kit Carson of the 49-35 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Kit Carson lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brennan Framel. Despite the final result, he scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Framel has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Irwin, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval had a senior duo take command as Trey Smith scored 20 points along with five rebounds and Dane Lockhart scored six points along with nine rebounds and five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Genoa-Hugo/Karval's points.
Kit Carson has not been sharp recently as the team has lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season. As for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kit Carson will take on Cheyenne Wells at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, they will be playing at home against Eads at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Eads will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Genoa-Hugo/Karval surely won't give up without a fight.
