Basketball Game Preview: Needville Bluejays vs. Columbia Roughnecks

Needville is on a three-game streak of home losses, Columbia an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season, but someone's luck will change on Tuesday. The Needville Bluejays will welcome the Columbia Roughnecks at 7:00 p.m.

On Friday, Needville opened the new year with a less-than-successful 52-39 loss to Wharton.

Despite their defeat, Needville saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jaydon Ortiz, who posted seven points in addition to six assists and six boards, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Ralphie Ortiz, who had nine points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Columbia had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Sweeny on Friday as Columbia made off with a 74-54 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Roughnecks have posted since December 13, 2024.

Columbia's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-14. As for Needville, their loss dropped their record down to 5-11.

Needville strolled past Columbia in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 by a score of 64-50. Will Needville repeat their success, or does Columbia have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
