Braden Caito tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last four matches.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Logan Burchfiel, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last 17 games. Another player making a difference was Liam Smithberg, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Millard North's offense. They fell just short of Millard West by a score of 2-0 on Thursday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 6, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Brandon Berge was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 7.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.
Creighton Prep's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-12. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Millard North, their loss dropped their record down to 15-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. However, it's not like Millard North struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
