Softball Game Preview: West Point Dragons vs. Apollo Hawks

The West Point Dragons will head out on the road to square off against the Apollo Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in West Point's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three games.

If West Point beats Apollo with 18 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. West Point put the hurt on Apollo with a sharp 18-11 win on Tuesday. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

For Apollo's part, Taylor Veloz stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave Veloz a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Michelle Ngchar, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

This is the second loss in a row for Apollo and nudges their season record down to 2-6. As for West Point, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Apollo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Point has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game.
