Kennedy and Hancock are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Crusaders are taking a road trip to square off against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Kennedy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
Kennedy lost 13-3 to Blue Island Eisenhower on Wednesday. The Crusaders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hancock). They put the hurt on Juarez with a sharp 14-4 win on Thursday. Hancock not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 21, 2024 (when they won 22-7).
Isela Garcia made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Alayna Bentley was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alex Pinal, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Hancock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Hancock's record is now 2-11. As for Kennedy, their loss dropped their record down to 14-7-1.
Hancock's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Kennedy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .546. It's a different story for Hancock, though, as they've only averaged .346. Will they be able to contain Kennedy's hitters?
Kennedy suffered a grim 21-6 defeat to Hancock when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Crusaders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
