Baseball Recap: Gordonsville Drops Highest Score of Season Against Clarkrange

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gordonsville). They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over the Clarkrange Buffaloes on Monday. Considering the Tigers have won 11 matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Clinton Pope was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Matthew Blankenship looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

Back at the plate, Brodie Sykes was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tucker Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Gordonsville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .346 or higher in four consecutive games.

Gordonsville is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Clarkrange, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Gordonsville beat the Buffaloes by a score of 20-9 on Tuesday.
