The Calvert Senecas will face off against the Lakota Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Calvert will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
Calvert proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by ten) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Hopewell-Loudon, sneaking past 4-3.
Tucker Coleman tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Calvert saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was AJ Shoemaker, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Gabe Badik also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lakota, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They skirted past Hopewell-Loudon 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Raiders have posted since April 9th.
The team relied heavily on AJ Gosche, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 11 matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Bomer, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI.
Lakota always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Calvert's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lakota, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Calvert has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lakota struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
