Softball Recap: Taft Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Taft, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Lutheran South Academy Pioneers on Friday.

Taft got a great performance from Camilla Hernandez as she tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Hernandez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits every time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hannah Flores, who went 2-for-4 with one home run. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sophia Quiroz, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Taft's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Lutheran South Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Taft will face off against The Woodlands at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Taft's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so The Woodlands' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lutheran South Academy, they will square off against Plano East at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Plano East will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Lutheran South Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
