Softball Game Preview: Greenfield Green Wave vs. Agawam Brownies

The Greenfield Green Wave will take on the Agawam Brownies at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Greenfield is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Massachusetts' top teams: Westfield, who was ranked 16th at the time (Greenfield was ranked 23rd). The Green Wave lost 8-0 to the Bombers on Thursday. The Green Wave have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Greenfield saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gloria McDonald, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that McDonald has snagged this season.

Taconic hit Agawam with a five-run seventh inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Brownies came up short against the Thunder, falling 10-3.

Madelyn Pajer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Greenfield's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Agawam, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Greenfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 13.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Agawam struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Greenfield beat Agawam 4-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Green Wave repeat their success, or do the Brownies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
