Softball Recap: Campbell Takes Down Ranked Kapolei

Campbell faced Kapolei in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Campbell put the hurt on Kapolei with a sharp 12-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Sabers, who have now won three games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Kaienna Fuentes-Arellano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Skylynne Gonzalez was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those RBI marked the first that she brought in this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Shyla Gabrillo, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Gonzalez wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Campbell lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. Campbell is a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more home runs.

Campbell's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Kapolei, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season.
