Preview: Arvada West Wildcats vs. Lakewood Tigers
The Arvada West Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Lakewood Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Arvada West is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Wednesday, Arvada West was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 39-34 to Chatfield.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Sara Walker, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Avery Harrison was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, Lakewood's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They were beaten by Columbine 93-42. While losing is never fun, Lakewood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 197th, while Columbine is ranked 47th).
The match pitted two dominant players against one another in Dyani Parrish and Jordyn Washington. Washington had a great game and scored 21 points along with five steals. Meanwhile, Parrish did her best for the losing side, scoring 13 points along with six assists and five steals.
Arvada West has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season. As for Lakewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's contest: Arvada West have been dynamite from deep this season, having only drained 35.4% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Lakewood, though, as they've only drained 27.2% of their threes per game this season. Given Arvada West's sizeable advantage in that area, Lakewood will need to find a way to close that gap.
