Softball Game Preview: Lakewood Cougars vs. Mount Vernon Bulldogs

The Lakewood Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Mount Vernon Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakewood has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight losses, while Mount Vernon will come in with five straight victories.

Lakewood managed to slip by Marysville Getchell the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Cougars came up short against Marysville Getchell on Tuesday, falling 10-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Mount Vernon owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance last Friday. They had just enough and edged out Arlington 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted since May 10, 2024.

Mount Vernon pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Lakewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Lakewood couldn't quite get it done against Mount Vernon in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
