Basketball Recap: Sanaa Puryear Key Part of a Team Effort in Camels Win

There's no place like home for Atkins, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against the Northeast Guilford Rams by a score of 48-39 on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Camels: when they faced off against the Rams back in January, they had to take a 53-39 loss.

Atkins' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sanaa Puryear, who posted 15 points. What's more, Puryear also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Taylor Shen was another key player, putting up 13 points.

When it comes to explaining why Northeast Guilford lost, don't look at Kiyah Sherman. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sasha Brower, who earned four points and 14 boards.

Atkins' victory bumped their record up to 4-16. As for Northeast Guilford, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-16.

Coming up, Atkins will be playing at home against High Point Central at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Atkins is facing High Point Central at the right time seeing as High Point Central is stuck on a 21-game losing streak. As for Northeast Guilford, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rockingham County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Rockingham County will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Northeast Guilford surely won't give up without a fight.
