Baseball Recap: Reading Has No Trouble Against Clark Montessori

Reading came out on top against Clark Montessori on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 9-1 win. The Blue Devils haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Charlie Hess made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Davis, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April. Jackson Hirt was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Reading kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Reading's win bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Clark Montessori, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season.

Reading will challenge Purcell Marian at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cavaliers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.2 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Clark Montessori, they are taking a road trip to take on Cincinnati Country Day at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
