Volleyball Recap: Newtown's Undefeated Season over After Three Games

Newtown lost against Cheshire back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Nighthawks lost 3-0 to the Rams. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Nighthawks have suffered since May 9, 2024.

The 3-0 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 29-27, 25-23, 25-22.

Nate Twitchell paced Newtown's offense, picking up 14 kills. Twitchell got some help from Dima Frunza and his 24 assists.

Cheshire can attribute much of their success to Jacob Tierney, who had 12 digs and five blocks. What's more, Tierney posted two assists, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.

Having lost for the first time this season, Newtown fell to 2-1. As for Cheshire, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Coming up, Newtown will take on Amity Regional at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Nighthawks are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Cheshire, they have already played their next contest, a 3-2 win against Xavier on the 14th.
