Whitehall extended their losing streak to seven on Monday, dropping them down to 2-15. They lost 7-0 to the Eleva-Strum Cardinals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 last Friday.
Regan Clatt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Whitehall saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.
As for Eleva-Strum, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.
On Eleva-Strum's side, Ruby Bartholomew was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Bartholomew has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Maddea Brown was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Sadie Norby was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whitehall will head out to square off against Necedah at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. As for Eleva-Strum, they will head out on the road to take on Blair-Taylor at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cardinals 2.6, the Wildcats 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
