Albemarle hasn't had much luck against Monticello recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Patriots will head out on the road to take on the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Monticello took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Albemarle, who comes in off a win.
Albemarle is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Chancellor with a sharp 17-2 victory on Monday. The Patriots not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 16, 2024.

Mela Gibson was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Armstrong, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Albemarle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chancellor only posted an OBP of .294.
Meanwhile, while it was Monticello who put the first runs on the board on Monday, it was Spotswood who put up more. The Mustangs took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trailblazers. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Trailblazers: they've now lost three in a row.
Madison Steppe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Monticello saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Willow Barr, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Having lost for the first time this season, Monticello fell to 7-1. As for Albemarle, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Albemarle suffered a grim 8-2 defeat to Monticello in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Patriots avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
