Preview: Alexander Cougars vs. Newnan Cougars
The Alexander Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Newnan Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Alexander is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
Alexander scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They strolled past New Manchester with points to spare, taking the game 82-65. Given Alexander's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while New Manchester is ranked 212th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alexander got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Braedan Lue out in front who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Lue's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Allen Stoddard, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Newnan, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 68-50 loss to Douglas County on Tuesday.
Alexander's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.8 points per game. As for Newnan, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Alexander was able to grind out a solid victory over Newnan in their previous matchup back in January, winning 63-51. Does Alexander have another victory up their sleeve, or will Newnan turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
