Softball Recap: Herrin Comes Up Short

Herrin extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 8-10 in the process. They fell 13-10 to the Massac County Patriots. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 12-2.

Madison Monchino made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Madison Dickerson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

As for Massac County, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 4-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the game before.

On Massac County's side, Hannah Edwards was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Edwards has posted since back in April of 2024. Riley Baumgart was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs.

Coincidentally, Herrin and Massac County will both be playing Benton the next time they take the field. The Tigers will head out to face the Rangers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Patriots will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
